Evi Roman’s WHY NOT YOU, now featured on Dekkoo, is a powerful and difficult film to watch.
Thomas Penn is Mario, a young man who aspires to be a dancer, but who has several odd jobs to survive in his village which is high above the city and reached only with a trip on a cable car. Nothing is steady except his dream and his friendship with Lenz.
When in a gay bar in Rome, Mario is apparently the only survivor of a gay attack by Muslim terrorists. And Mario connections to his town and family are severed as, he is adrift. And when he discovers Muslims to be the one group trying to reach him, the plot remains complicated and intense.
This for sure is a film for our moment. It is tough to watch, but Thomas Penn is sexy and mesmerizing.
